First of all I don't think there is any one band that is wholly original in their songwriting, they can be very creative in their songwriting but we are ultimately who we listen to we cannot create something we haven't heard.
And if different members of the band listen to various types of music then once they combine their juices to write, a "new" sound comes out, but really is it original?
We do not have creative powers, we are not God, we can only improvise. We were made in His image thus I believe we have "pseudo-creative" powers yet nothing near that the powers of God.
We cannot make something out of nothing because we are not God and we can only make something out of whatever there is around and so we improvise.
I'm not that affected and I'm only typing this post out because I've been thinking through to myself that we sound like this band with this band or that band.
Yet like Daniel and I observed with Silverchair, with their first album they sounded like ripoffs but they were good at what they did! Some people branded them Nirvana ripoffs!
But Nirvana's a great band to emulate!
And with their subsequent albums, they refined their sound and by Neon Ballroom there was a twist yet a grunge element remained and finally with Diorama they had a wholly new sound!
Now, tell me, if Silverchair was gonna worry about sounding like ripoffs and let that impede their songwriting, do you think they'd have grown in their songwriting process and finally come out with their very creative album, Diorama?
I don't think so.
Our songs are a reflection of who we are and what we listen to, our songs are limited by our technical capabilities but we are who we are and there is not one similar combination of 3 people or 4 people that are totally similar as the way we are put together! So as much as one can say that a band is ripoff there is no one like you or me.
Finally...
The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:8-9
There are only so many chords and so many notes in this beautiful thing God gave us called music and there we are limited to how we choose to use it and improve it to the best of our abilities to glorify Him who gave it to us and God, I believe will be pleased with our efforts!

geee...it's tough being in a band.
PLease. I only mentioned that it sounds like rip offs. i didn't mentioned that you guys suck which evidently you have a big issue about. I didn't bother reading all that kahootie you posted either. So all I want to say is. It's good stuff no doubt but I believe you guys need a direction in terms of being unique. Right now, it sounds like a bunch of things taken off a radio's five minute air. It's quite difficult to differentiate who these guys are when you hear them. I really mean no harm. Ever so often you hear 'good, set'. But compliments and perfection is not something you want to work on but rather, work towards no? so i'm going to be abit critical but in my doing so. I really don't mean to sound destructive. I wish you guys well. Perhaps originality isn't the exact field i'm targeting but more about identity. I caught CFS play before. That was quite misleading in terms of direction. Hope you get my drift and not rub off good intentions when you see it.
..and all that God smock chrop. makes me gawk. i hope it's not an image you're trying to sell.

WOW, nicely written. esp when my company is called pseudosuitecreative. hahs
Who is CFS misleading with our identity? Are we not living our to the life the Jesus Christ asked of us, namely to Love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength; and to love our neighbours as ourselves?
If we are not living a life of good godly conduct, I agree that we have been misleading as CFS, because CFS has always been a band that strive on glorifying God in everything that we play, sing or do. We may not always sing about the blessings that we recieve, because that would indeed be misleading. However life is also filled with sufferings of various magnitude, but yet for a CHristian, the bad things in life will turn our for our good because of our position in Christ.
Personally, I am more worried if we called ourselves Christians and live a double-life. Meaning that we preach a message and not live by what we preach about. Does that mean we will not fail or sin again? No, but we will no hasten to repent and renew our lives in with the Word of God until we become complete.
Have the members in CFS been living a life of truth and integrity? God be our judge and woe to us if we live a secret life of sin! We do not sing to make the public like our message. The gospel is not easy to accept esp when we sing about life from a CHristian perspective. But it does offer a different perspective from the world and that has always been our intention.
Lastly, the band is going thru some tremendous growth. If Mr Anonymous is a believer, pray for us and the other bands in the scene that has the same intention. If u are not against us, join us in prayer. Hope to see u at our show soon!
